Carla almost leapt with excitement when he said he was going to continue with maintenance. There was something incredibly erotic at the thought of carrying out his instructions from a distance with him looking on supervising. And yet it was entirely dependent on her co-operation. She couldn’t wait for tonight’s call. She found everything she needed at home and had it all ready in her bedroom. She got an email from him telling her to be naked when he skyped and kneeling in her corner with the laptop where he could see her. Why did that make her so aroused? God, she longed for his touch.
Finally the appointed hour was nearing. Carla undressed and waited. Kneeling upright, her toes curled under and her bottom lightly resting on her heels, the position he liked. Her hands were linked with the fingers intertwined resting lightly on her thighs because she had no paddle to hold aloft. The computer made a ringing sound and Carla stretched over to answer it.
“You’re not in the corner,” Kieran said menacingly.
“Computer won’t answer itself, dork,” Carla replied.
“Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.” He laughed. “Did you get everything?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Good girl. How did you sleep last night? You look better but still pale.” Carla cursed herself, she should have used some tinted moisturiser or something to add color. She didn’t want him worrying about her.
“I’m good, honestly. I slept for ten hours solid. How are you?”
“Busy, trying to organize things for leaving. Are you ready, sweetheart?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Okay. I want you to obey everything without question, even more so than if I was there, is that clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
“First roll and pinch your right nipple until it’s hard, then apply a clothespin. Then repeat the same with the second.” Carla had seen this coming. She knew exactly what he planned because she had gathered all of the stuff together. She got the first pin on and found it was bearable. Pleasant in a painful kind of way. But strangely it was more painful than the last time. She assumed it was the effects of the period that still hadn’t arrived.
“Now go and get your thrash can, the ginger and the peeler. Peel the ginger. Oh wait, first hold it up until I see it.” Carla held up a long wide finger of the fresh root.
“Good, it’s nice and long. Cut a small bit off the end, you might need it later.” Carla could hear the satisfaction in his voice
She showed him where she was going to cut and he agreed. As she peeled, Carla could feel her back end contracting and tightening. She had heard the other taken in hands talk of figging but had never tried it. She wished Kieran was here beside her, rather than thousands of miles away as she had her first experience. When it was peeled, Kieran told her to use her paring knife to shape it, and he held up a picture to his screen. She could see she was to put a little ridge near the end but leave the bottom thick and wide. Pretty much the shape of her plugs, she noted. Once done, she held it up for his inspection.
“Excellent, good girl. Now get on the bed and set the computer so your bottom is to the camera. I want to watch this. You need it so you can be up on your knees with your head and chest on the bed. Try not to lose the clothespins. Oh, and bring the wipes over too.” She did as she was bid, but it took them a few moments to get the computer and Carla in the right position for Kieran to watch. Finally he was satisfied. Then to her mortification, he told her to open her bottom cheeks with her hands so he could see her tight little hole. She wanted to die, but she obeyed. She had gathered he was going to watch the ginger going in, but at least the root would have obscured his vision. This had not entered her head. He kept her like that for a full two minutes. Her face was burning with shame. But of course he couldn’t see that. Oh no. He was too busy ogling her dirty little asshole.
“Bloody pervert,” she muttered in vexation.
“Thank you, from you that’s quite the compliment.” He laughed. “You won’t be so smart-mouthed in a minute. Get the ginger and insert it in your rectum.” Carla stretched for it and the lube.
“Ah, ah, ah. No lube, it should be juicy enough and we wouldn’t want to spoil the effect of it would we?”
“Yeah, we would actually! It’s not your ass that’s getting it,” Carla replied as she tried to push the plug of root in place. She grunted with the discomfort of breaching her rectum, but actually the ginger felt almost pleasant. Warming and soothing. She pushed it in to the ridge.
“Oh, you’re very brave when you’re three thousand miles away. Any more lip and there will be ginger on your clit too.” Carla refrained asking him how he proposed to do that from that distance but realized he had already accomplished this much. He had ways of making her obey. Plus, she couldn’t be sure if he would call on Jim to spank her like he’d threatened.
The burn was starting to spread. It was no longer just pleasant – it was also bloody hot. She began to wriggle to escape the heat, but soon realized movement made it much worse.
“How does that feel,” Kieran asked.
“Hot. Oops, not that kind of hot. Burney hot,” Carla clarified.
“It’s the other kind of hot from where I’m sitting,” Kieran said. “Get a wipe and clean your hands. Pleasure yourself.”
“Kieran… I’d be too embarrassed,” Carla protested.
“Do it, Carla. No one can see you.”
“You can,” she protested, but she obeyed. She had lied. It was the other kind of hot too. Her clit was alive and she couldn’t believe how wet she was down there.
“Your cunt is soaking. I can see it glisten,” Kieran said, shaming her beyond belief. “We are so repeating this when I get back. I want to be the one to touch your pussy as you feel the burn. Rub your clit faster.”
Carla rubbed, twiddled and pinched her pleasure button. Her muscles were starting to tense right from her toes all the way up her body, tighter and tighter. She forgot about Kieran, forgot she was on camera. She was swept away in the pleasure. And as she clenched, the root’s juices went deeper into her ass. The burn only added to the high. Her body shuddered with her climax to a loud, “Aah.”
“Good girl, well done,” Kieran praised. But Carla was in no position to listen. Her fingers had found their mark again and she was soaring back to the dizzying heights, coming again within seconds.
“No, Carla. Don’t be greedy. I didn’t give you permission to come again. You’ll be punished for that once I get back. I think we need to keep some sort of punishment list ‘til then so I don’t forget. You can start one later and email it to me. For now though, take that little nub you cut off and hold it against your clit.”
Carla was putty in his hands, obeying instinctively. He was hitting all of the right buttons. She didn’t know when he got to be so damn good at it. He really was a natural HOH, even if he wasn’t a natural spanker. He was a definite ass man and D/s turned him on. She had no doubt that he would see the benefits of spanking too, once he got over the fear of hurting her too much. She was so glad he was coming home. The thoughts of him out there, somewhere doing this stuff with someone else instead of her would drive her crazy with jealousy. He was hers, and she was keeping him all to herself.
“I’ve got to run now to take a conference call, sweetheart. You’re to stay like that for another fifteen minutes, then you can take the ginger out and remove the clothespins. Leave the computer on, I might get finished with the call early. I love you,” Kieran said. Carla had completely forgotten the pins, she had been so busy focusing on the burn in her rectum and clit.
“I love you too, I think,” Carla replied. “But I’m not sure if I still will in another fifteen minutes.”
“Remember, no more pleasuring yourself, and don’t forget to mail me the punishment log. Talk to you tomorrow.” Then he was gone, leaving Carla feeling a little silly, quite naughty and a lot turned on. She contemplated removing the pins and ginger, but fear that he might be back held her back.
The next ten days were spent spring cle
aning the house from top to bottom, getting into corners that hadn’t seen a duster since she moved in. Carla didn’t have the nerve to ask Kieran what arrangements he had made for accommodation. Part of her hoped he would stay with her, but the O’Brien’s seemed more likely. She knew he had gone to Brent about the approval process, so perhaps he was intending getting his own home. But in the event that he was staying with her, even temporarily, she wanted to prove she could be a good homemaker. The last thing she wanted was a spanking for a week’s worth of unwashed laundry or crockery. This was her chance to prove her worthiness in her own head. She had a step ladder set up in the living room to clean the light shades when she was hit by a terrible pain in her side. Almost immediately her panties felt moist. At last, the errant period had made its arrival. Carla just hoped it would be gone by the time Kieran returned. She ran the bath. After a half an hour soak, she was still in considerable pain. She called Marcus who told her to get over to him immediately.
“How long since your last period?” Marcus asked as he palpated her tummy.
“About six weeks, but I took a test and it was negative,” Carla replied.
He sent her off to the bathroom with a cup. Within seconds of the dipper hitting her urine, Carla could see the indicator turn positive. Her first instinct was excitement but Marcus looked very grave indeed.
“What’s wrong?” Carla asked before he had a chance to speak.
“I’m really sorry but I’m afraid you may have an ectopic pregnancy, Carla. Where the fetus attaches outside the womb. The symptoms are all there. I’d like to send you to the hospital by helicopter as I want you to get there as quickly as possible. Chances are the urgency might not be that great, but without the right equipment here, I’m not prepared to take any risks. The sooner you get there, the sooner I can be assured of your safety and also the chances of saving your tube. I’m so sorry.”
Carla burst out crying, then felt like a heel for dumping her misery on Marcus, who was doing the caring doctor act with a woman who had made his life difficult. She really, really wanted Kieran at that moment. She had mourned the loss of her dreams with her first negative test, and then with Kieran leaving. It was so unfair to be handed a pregnancy and robbed of it within seconds. The fact that she hadn’t known of her pregnancy didn’t mean she didn’t feel the loss of it.
“Can I call anyone for you, to accompany you to hospital?” Marcus asked gently.
Carla shook her head. “No, I’ll call my mom, she can meet me there.”
“I don’t like the idea of you traveling alone.”
“I could call Ange, but who would look after her children? Jim won’t be finished with work yet. No, it’s not fair,” Carla replied, whilst thinking aloud.
Marcus picked up the phone. “Cadence, I wonder if you could do me a favor? Would you look after Ava and Jack for a couple of hours until Jim finishes work?” Carla saw him smile down at the phone as Cadence replied.
“Thanks, sweetheart,” he said softly before hanging up. Before Carla had a chance to protest, he was on the phone to Ange. He explained tactfully that Carla had to go for some emergency treatment and asked her to get to the surgery as soon as possible without divulging the nature of it.
Carla was having a hard time holding it together and when Ange came in all concerned, Carla fell apart. Ange just held her and let her blubber. She was so incoherent that it fell to Marcus to explain the cause of her distress. As he spoke, Ange held Carla’s hand.
“I know, pet. You cry away. It’s not fair,” Ange said soothingly as he finished speaking. She hugged Carla with all her might as if trying to soften the blow that could not be eased. Carla found huge comfort in the woman she had once so wronged.
Ange stayed by her side until she went in to theatre and was waiting for her when she came back. She was there when the gynecologist came to give her the news that her ovary had been saved with only a small incision, and her fertility wasn’t affected, thanks to Carla’s and Marcus’ fast action. Ange held her when she cried over her loss, comforting her. And Jim was the one to pick them up when Carla was told there was no reason to stay on at the hospital. Marcus would be able to look after her now that the laproscopy was done. They were both adamant she should stay with them for a day or two. Finally, Carla felt totally at ease with them as if the past had been undone. Both seemed to share her loss with her. Carla knew it was partly because it was Kieran’s baby. They saw her and treated her like family. And while that comforted her, what she really wanted was Kieran’s arms around her making the hurt bearable.
Chapter Eleven
Kieran braced himself before he got out of the car. He had no right to feel mournful. Carla must be feeling his sadness twenty million times over. And she had gone through it without him. He should have been there with her. When Jim had called him, he said she had gone to the hospital with some women’s troubles. She was well, but could do with his support. Kieran had taken the first available flight not knowing what was wrong. By the time he landed and switched on his phone, he had a message from Jim saying Carla was out and staying with them. It was only in the drive from the airport that he found out what had happened. God knows he wanted to grieve, but he had to be strong. He had asked Jim not to tell her of his arrival as he was afraid she would want to make the journey to the airport.
“Hey, sweetheart, been in the wars?” Kieran said softly. Carla’s eyes filled up with tears as soon as she saw him. He crossed the few feet to what had been his bed and kissed her forehead first, then found her mouth, soft and wet, salty from the tears that had fallen.
“I’m so, so sorry,” were the only words he seemed able to find. And he was. Sorry for her, sorry for him, sorry for them as a couple. But most of all, he was sorry for the poor little mite that never got a chance.
“I didn’t know if you’d be mad at me. I should have done something more about contraception,” Carla cried.
“Why on earth would I be mad? I took part in it all too, remember. I love you and will be thrilled whenever God graces us with a child. It seems this was not our time. I’m just so glad you’re okay.” Kieran stretched out on the bed beside her, held her close and let her cry her fill.
His own tears were silent, wiped away before Carla could see them. He lay like that even after Carla fell asleep, he was loathe to leave her. He just lay on the bed beside her, soothing her when she cried in her sleep. Being there was all he could do. He passed the night imagining what it would have been like to have returned to hear the news that he was finally going to be a dad and he ached for the lost opportunity.
“You’re still here,” Carla said when she finally awoke. “Have you been lying there all that time?”
“Of course I am, where else would I be?” Kieran said before kissing her.
Physically Kieran could see she was fine, if ever so slightly tender. Kieran was more worried about her emotional health. He knew she would have to mourn. And she didn’t need his insecurity crap holding it back from him. He had to let her know he was there for her heart and soul.
“I know I’ve made a bit of a balls of all this head of house thing up ‘til now, Carla. Partly because I wasn’t that comfortable with it and partly because I was too scared to commit. I didn’t come to Corbin’s Bend to find a future. But a future found me. I want the long haul. I want to be yours, body and soul, and I want that back from you. Not for a while, forever. And what’s more, I want it all the old-fashioned way. I want us to get married, not to live together and just drift on and on, waiting until the time is right, then finding it never is. We might have started out on a summer fling, but I want this to be our forever summer.”
“Was that supposed to be a proposal?” Carla asked, turning her face upwards to look at him. To his surprise her eyes were glistening with tears.
“Yes. It damn well was,” Kieran replied. He hadn’t intended it to be, not yet when she was so vulnerable. It was meant to be a promise of a future when she was more ready for it. But if his lady want
ed it that way, then a proposal it was. He dropped to his knee, with Carla laughing at him. “Please, Carla Methon, will you be my forever summer?”
“That’s better. Yes please,” she replied.
Now that Kieran was back, Carla insisted on going back to her own house. Physically she was fine, and Marcus said there was no reason why she shouldn’t. Kieran was glad to get her all to himself without the O’Briens. They needed some space to talk. Plus, Kieran couldn’t help but feel that a house with two children might not be the best thing for Carla just then, no matter how fond she was of them.
One of the things that shocked Kieran was how the community rallied around Carla when news of her loss spread. He was surprised when Cadence was one of the first callers. She didn’t hang around long, just stayed long enough to offer support and a couple of meals for the freezer. One by one the neighbors came, most of them similarly armed with food. Even all of those Carla had upset in the past. One of the community was in trouble and they were all there to help. He knew Carla was very moved by their compassion. She told him she had always felt like a bit of an outcast after she had caused so much trouble for Ange, but admitted she had been prickly as hell with guilt and remorse. She was beginning to feel like she belonged again.
Over the next couple of days they talked until they ran out of words. Kieran told Carla he had a house booked, one of the slightly bigger homes, as he hoped it would be their marital home soon. He explained why he was so reluctant to allow them to drift into an uncommitted relationship. Kieran also confessed that he was a bit lost on the whole head of household thing. Brent had assigned him a mentor and he would start working on improving as soon as possible.
